With my 30th birthday creeping around the corner and life passing me by just a little too quick, it's time to do something to improve my health and start living the life I know is out there waiting for me....
After countless trips to my GP for all sorts of weight related things ranging from Depression to low blood sugar, and so many failed attempts at weight loss using all sorts of methods and diets, it was suggested to me by my doctor that I have a look into the lap band procedure. It had been mentioned to me in passing before by a couple of other people but at the time I thought it was a bit too drastic and something I was hoping to avoid, but having it recommended by my doctor whose opinion I value very much finally hit home that losing weight was something I needed to do not only so I could look at myself in the mirror without wanting to vomit, but something that had now become medically necessary.
So after many hours of researching the procedure, reading blogs from others who have had the lap band done and reading the advice and information on the forums available on the internet, I called and made an appointment with a surgeon. My appointment is booked with Dr Brendan Ryan at Baulkham Hills Circle of Care on Monday 19th January 2009.
In creating this blog, I hope to have a record of my successful journey to look back on and in the process possibly help other people understand what the lap band is, how it works and the effects it has on those who have had the procedure done.
